Lee County is located in the heart of Southwest Florida. The tourist literature describes our area as the Lee Island Coast, nestled along the shores of the Gulf of Mexico and no more than a short drive to a host of special locations including Naples, Sarasota, Tampa/St. Pete and Miami.
Every imaginable outdoor activity is available year round for those who enjoy an active lifestyle. There are more than 50 golf courses in Lee County, earning the title of "Golf Capital of the World." Boating, fishing, camping and tennis are just a few of the activities one can expect in this part of the country. Six major hospitals, shopping malls featuring national brand and local retail stores, cinema complexes, minor league baseball, hockey, basketball and arena football complement a full calendar of art and entertainment events throughout the year.
Within Lee County are a number of cities and towns of various sizes, all growing in population an average of 10% per annum. The 2000 Census reports 440,888 and projects a population of 648,400 residents by 2010. These numbers triple during tourist season (January through April) each year. |
